Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed the necessity of defeating terrorism once and for all in Syria and resolving the crisis in it politically through a Syrian-Syrian dialogue without foreign interference and in accordance with UN Resolution 2254.
Lavrov said during his meeting with the Speaker of the Libyan Parliament, Aqeela Saleh, in Moscow today that Russia supports the full implementation of Security Council Resolution 2254 to solve the crisis in Syria and stresses the need for a political solution through the Syrian-Syrian dialogue.
UN Resolution 2254, issued in December 2015, affirms that it is the Syrians who determine the future of their country themselves without any external interference and that terrorist organizations are outside any political process.
Lavrov stressed the need to defeat terrorism, whether in Syria or Libya or in any part of the Middle East because it is a common duty and should be away from double standards and from some countries' attempts to use terrorists to implement their geopolitical agendas in the region.
On the crisis in Libya, Lavrov reiterated that there is no military solution to it and the necessity to start dialogue between the Libyans, explaining that the Cairo initiative could form the basis for launching the political process to solve the crisis in it.
The Russian Foreign Minister also announced the resumption of the work of the Russian embassy in Libya, and said, "We have decided to resume the activities of the Russian embassy, and its management will be from Tunisia temporarily, but I confirm that its functions include representation of Russia throughout Libya."
In turn, the Speaker of the Libyan Parliament confirmed that there is no military solution to the crisis in Libya, noting that the diplomatic openness witnessed in Russian diplomacy in the international community has made it an effective and acceptable mediator for solving international crises, including the Libyan crisis.
Since 2011, NATO witnessed a state of chaos and lawlessness in light of the proliferation of weapons and terrorist organizations that are trying to impose their influence and control on various cities and regions, and the situation in them has increased recently, the arrival of groups of mercenary terrorists sent by the Turkish regime from Northern Syria.
