The Left agreed on a program for the federal election at its federal party congress.

In addition to a higher minimum wage, it also calls for more climate protection - and wants to limit rents nationwide.

Berlin (dpa) - The Left decided on its program for the federal election on Sunday.

At an online party conference, a clear majority of 362 delegates voted in favor (just under 88 percent of 412 valid votes), 30 voted against and 20 abstained.

The Left advocates, among other things, a minimum wage of 13 euros (currently 9.50 euros), a nationwide rent cap, a minimum pension of 1200 euros, more vacation and public holidays and long-term free public transport.

In addition, the party advocates stronger taxation of companies, high incomes and assets and calls for a crisis tax from a net asset of two million euros to deal with the consequences of the corona.

In climate policy, the left is committed to the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees and to climate neutrality by 2035, i.e. that a balance between greenhouse gas emissions and their reduction has been achieved by then - "as the only party", as it was recognized by the climate movement Fridays for Future.
