Among patients affected by the severe managerial crisis in the neurosurgical department at Hadassah Ein Kerem, there are also complaints of harm to babies with cancer.
At the beginning of February this year, Prof. Jose Cohen, from Hadassah's catheter, wrote to Hadassah's board chairman, Dalia Itzik, about "a very serious case that happened one day in the pediatric ward where babies with malignant cancer are being treated with chemotherapy injections."
According to Prof. Cohen, hundreds of babies have been treated like this for 21 years.
"Our unit is the only one in the country that treats these children, and the babies come to us from all over the country. But last week three babies aged one to six months underwent a procedure under general anesthesia. The children recover in our unit, are transferred to the pediatric ward, and released from hospital.
Prof. Cohen also claimed that "the day after the catheterization and about eight hours after the estimated discharge time from the ward, the father of a two-month-old baby came to the catheterization unit with teary eyes, saying that they were not released and that no one treated them in the ward. It was difficult to describe the pain of these parents. We were surprised to find that Prof. Shoshan instructed the interns not only not to release the babies but not to treat them as part of the neurosurgery department, claiming that Prof. Cohen is not part of the neurosurgery department. "
Cohen warned that "this case is undoubtedly crossing a red line where the main victims are the babies and their parents. It is unacceptable that a unilateral conflict and decision by the head of the department, Prof. Shoshan, to neutralize and remove me from the staff, instruct interns not to treat and release "These children because they have undergone care under my hand. Where have we come from? Where is the professionalism, morality and compassion?"
Dalia Itzik did not respond to Prof. Cohen's complaint.
