The Director of the Education Bureau, Yang Runxiong, announced today (26th) a streamlined curriculum plan for the Liberal Studies subject. The class hours are halved, and only qualified and unqualified are graded. Independent Thematic Inquiry (IES) is also cancelled and the requirement to visit mainland China is added.
Leung Mei-fen, a member of the Pakatan Harapan Council who is also chairman of the Educational Affairs Committee of the Legislative Council, said that the plan was "better late than never arrived" and that the new subject requirements were "very basic".
Liang Meifen pointed out that general education textbooks must have certain requirements and criticized the current lack of supervision in general education.
She believes that the Education Bureau needs to ensure that teachers impart correct knowledge and require new teachers to pass assessments.

She said that in general, teachers of important subjects such as the Constitution and the Basic Law must have correct knowledge, and teachers should not be afraid of further studies and assessments.
One of the plans of the Education Bureau is to visit the Mainland, and the relevant parts are not scored. Liang Meifen agrees that there is no need to score points.
