Life insurance: the French are rediscovering the taste for risk

DECRYPTION - After shunning this placement in 2020, the French have invested 21 billion euros since January, 38% of which in unsecured contracts.


The 2020 air gap is only a distant memory.

This year, the French, anxious to invest the significant savings accumulated during periods of confinement, have returned in force to life insurance.

In November, they placed 12.4 billion euros on their contracts, according to the French Insurance Federation (FFA).

"A level never seen in the past for a month of November"

, assures Franck Le Vallois, general manager of the FFA.

The previous record dated from 2006 (12 billion euros).

In the end, net inflows (deposits minus withdrawals) exceeded two billion euros (2.3 billion euros) for the second consecutive month, which had not been seen for two years.

It reached 21 billion euros over the first eleven months of 2021.
