Ligue 1: defeated by Brest, OM offer the title of autumn champion to PSG

2021-12-04T18:15:53.640Z

Despite a controlled first half, Olympique de Marseille lost on Saturday at the Stade Vélodrome, facing solid Brestois (1-2),

The machine jammed, then overturned.

Everything seemed to be going for the best, Saturday at the Stade Vélodrome, for the Olympique du Marseille, who had started their match against the Stade Brestois in the best possible way.

Arkadiusz Milik on the bench, it is therefore Gerson, on a skylight with his left foot, who opened the scoring for the Marseillais (29th, 1-0).

Then everything changed.

After a penalty scored by Romain Faivre (53rd, 1-1), the control seemed to flee the locals who conceded a second Brest goal on a perfect one-two launched by Jérémy Le Douaron and concluded by Franck Honorat with a powerful strike hitting the crossbar before returning.

This setback from the runner-up to Paris Saint-Germain allows players from the capital to be crowned autumn champions, even before playing their evening meeting against RC Lens.

The Parisians are 12 points ahead of OM.

The ranking consequence

This is the 6th consecutive victory for the Bretons in the league and their 8th unbeaten game.

A success that allows them to climb back to 6th place in Ligue 1 (24 points), with a match ahead of the other teams.

For its part, OM retains its place of dolphin (29 points) of Paris Saint-Germain, but the Marseille club could see Rennes or Nice return to its height, or even to come back in front.

Highlights

If the mark has switched in favor of Stade Brestois, the statistics of the match reveal the lack of finish of the Marseillais.

With nearly 75% possession and 15 shots attempted, the Olympians could only find the solution once, on an inspiration from Gerson.

Conversely, the Bretons shot half (9) on goal than their opponents for a total of two goals, on a penalty and one against.

The unusual fact

If the 22 players were present to start the meeting, the main referee, Antony Gautier, injured himself during his warm-up.

He was therefore replaced just before kick-off by his 4th referee, the former Ligue 1 player Gaël Angoula, who thus officiated for his first match in the elite, he who is more used to the lawns of National and of Ligue 2.

Gaël Angoula, substitute referee of the day for OM 🆚 Brest (A. Gautier was injured during the warm-up), officiates for his very first Ligue 1 match!

👮

For those who do not know him, he is a former pro player who came through Bastia, Angers & Nîmes!
