A fire broke out early Monday evening in a church in central Lille.
The firefighters were alerted shortly before 8:00 p.m. for a fire at the Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul church, located in the heart of the working-class district of Wazemmes, next to the square where a well-known market in the city is held.

The disaster extended to the roof of the building before the arrival of firefighters, who mobilized about fifteen devices.
“Two spears are in operation.

Very little smoke was visible from outside before 9:00 p.m., noted an AFP journalist.

The church was in poor condition and had already been closed for several months in 2020 in order to carry out renovation work, the regional daily
