Lior Eliyahu is expected to hold a press conference in the next week or two and officially announce the end of his illustrious basketball career.
As you may recall, already in May it was reported in "Israel Today" that one of the greatest Israeli basketball players of all time is considering hanging up his shoes after many long and beautiful years in which he excelled in the top of Israeli and European basketball.
Eliyahu, 34, who played for Maccabi Ashdod last season, injured his hand last February and ended the season. In recent months he has been debating whether to return for a final season and after consulting with his associates and family members has decided to retire.
Elijah won the Spanish championship during his career, won six Israeli championships, three state cups, seven Winner's trophies, was named player of the month in the Euroleague (December 2008) and won many other personal titles. In addition, he was selected by the Orlando Magic in 44th place in the NBA Draft in 2006, but did not play in the best league in the world.
Eliyahu played for the Israeli national team from 2007 to 2018 and was one of the most prominent players in Israeli basketball in the current millennium.
