So-called scratch cards are very popular in the USA.
They are often offered at the cash register in grocery stores or gas stations.
The costs are kept within limits, but so are the chances of winning (as with all lotteries).
A retiree in the state of Maryland, however, has now eliminated all odds.
The woman recently bought two scratch cards at Talbert's Ice & Beverage Service in Bethesda.
The first was a failure, but the second attempt was a direct hit: the 61-year-old was waiting for a profit of 50,000 US dollars, as reported by the US broadcaster CNN, among others.
That would be remarkable in itself.
In this particular case, however, it was the third time that the unnamed woman was able to win the lottery, as CNN reports, citing representatives of the Maryland Lottery.
She had already pocketed 50,000 US dollars in August 2018 - and again the following October.
"I couldn't believe it, again!" The woman is quoted in the report.
According to her own statements, she wants to use the money for urgently needed repairs to her house.
Almost $ 740 million to one person
As unusual as the triple win may seem - the sum is manageable compared to other lottery pots.
It was only in January of this year that a person from the state of Michigan cracked the jackpot in the Mega Millions lottery.
It was the third largest jackpot in US history and suddenly made the player very rich.
For the lot with the six numbers 4, 26, 42, 50, 60, 24, he or she received 739.6 million US dollars (around 608 million euros).
It was the only lottery ticket with six numbers.
In Germany too, considerable sums of money are repeatedly distributed to winners.
In September, a lucky guy in Bavaria cracked the Eurojackpot - and was able to look forward to a double-digit million win.
As announced by Westlotto, a total of 49,327,084.70 euros was spent on the ticket.
