Loud whistles during the national anthem - even before the opening game, the fans in Frankfurt caused a stir.

There was criticism for this from many quarters.

Munich – As if the Frankfurt fans had had a premonition of what to expect on the pitch in the next 90 minutes before the opening game, a shrill whistle sounded just before kick-off.

The reason for this was certainly not the visionary ability of the Eintracht supporters, otherwise most would probably have saved the way to the stadium because of Bayern's 1:6 beating.

The fans were much more likely to use the opportunity to express their general displeasure with the German Football League (DFL) during the German national anthem performed by Carolin Niemczyk.

Müller on the whistle concert during the national anthem: the fans' motive looks "apparently above national pride"

At least that's what Thomas Müller suspected after the end of the game, when asked about the whistles before the game.

"I don't know the motives now, but I assume that it's basically against the league or against the DFB." An opening ceremony including the national anthem that has already been slimmed down compared to previous years is probably still for many of the around 50,000 fans one frame point too many, suspects the FC Bayern Munich attacking player.

"That the fans don't want a supporting program that doesn't have anything to do with pure football."

And according to Müller, who was involved in a curious slapstick scene during the 6:1 gala, that motif is “apparently above the national anthem, above national pride.

The people just prioritized that, prioritized differently than we did, who sang along.

But that's not something that worries me personally very much.” Müller contributed two assists in Bayern's gala performance against Eintracht and emphasized before the game that Bayern Munich want to set the tone again this season.

Superstar newcomer to the Bayern squad, Sadio Mané, scored his debut goal in the Bundesliga in the 29th minute.

Ex-Bayern player Effenberg criticizes fans' whistles: "That's bullshit"

In any case, singer Niemczyk, a member of the Glasperlenspiel duo, was disappointed with the whistling concert.

"It's a shame that such a moment was disturbed by a very small part of the fans.

In sports, in particular, it should always be about respect and fair play.

I would sing the national anthem again at such an event at any time," she explained to the

Eintracht board spokesman Axel Hellmann also showed little understanding for the whistle concert of the spectators in an interview with the

: "The whistling of the national anthem is not possible at all." Ex-Bayern player Stefan Effenberg also hit the same note.

"That's bullshit," he said in the

double pass.

"There are only two events in club football where the anthem is played: that's the opening game of the Bundesliga and the DFB Cup final.

When the anthem is played, it should fill you with pride.

I can't understand in any way that there was a whistle."
