The axes of the central national symposium organized by the Ministry of Interior today on the occasion of the International Day for Combating Drug Phenomenon, which falls on the twenty-sixth of June of each year, focused on raising awareness of the dangers of drug abuse and emphasizing Syria's effective commitment to confronting this dangerous and destructive scourge of society.
In his speech during the symposium, Major General Muhammad al-Rahmoun, Minister of Interior and Chairman of the National Committee for Narcotics Affairs, said: “The phenomenon of drug trafficking is one of the challenges facing criminal justice agencies worldwide, which takes the nature of organized crime in addition to the international cross-border nature due to the rapid developments in technologies and communications and their misuse. It is one of the most important problems that worry the world despite all the efforts made to combat it.”
Minister Al-Rahmoun added: “Syria participates with the international community in the International Day for Drug Control, assuring its commitment to confronting this dangerous scourge and the catastrophic health, social and economic damage that these toxins leave on the individual and society,” noting that Syria was and still plays an important role in supporting the efforts of The international community to combat this scourge, as it signed all international agreements related to the illicit drug trade, in addition to its participation in various activities concerned with combating the phenomenon of drug trafficking.
Minister Al-Rahmoun indicated that the fight against and prevention of drug crimes is not only entrusted to governments, but rather it is necessary to societal cooperation and to put more controls and alternatives for all plans and procedures aimed at combating drugs, which requires more efforts at the national level and focus on awareness of the dangers of drugs and their destructive effects.
Minister Al-Rahmoun added: The Ministry of Interior is facing this scourge with determination and determination, as it pays attention to the Anti-Narcotics Department and its branches in the governorates and provides them with all the capabilities, as these efforts have yielded in confronting the dealers and smugglers of narcotic substances, and large quantities of transit and hidden in a complex technical manner have been seized.
For his part, Somar Al-Daher, head of the Revolutionary Youth Union, said that the organization plays its role in caring for young people and promoting constructive behavior patterns in all fields, in addition to its contribution to spreading awareness about many common pests and diseases and about the dangers of smoking and drugs and ways to combat and prevent them, based on the importance of strengthening the societal role Youth and invest their energies in the process of building the nation and achieve its growth and prosperity.
The symposium was attended by a number of ministers' assistants, police chiefs in Damascus and its countryside, a number of central administration directors, representatives of all ministries, and a number of stakeholders.
