Kaufbeuren - The fire of the hare dye (the district messenger reported several times) is apparently still in the bones of the Kaufbeuren city council. In order to minimize the risk to historical buildings in Kaufbeuren, Holger Jankovsky (Greens) applied for fireworks to be dispensed with entirely in the old town in the future. On Tuesday, the members of the committee decided unanimously to comply with the request. They recommend the city council to ban fireworks in the city center, including on New Year's and New Year's days.

"The point here is to preserve our historic old town, our history," said Jankovsky.

The Green City Council is aware that many are now "banning party ringing" again.

“We don't want to ban fireworks in general.

The Spittelmühlkreuzung as Kaufbeuren's party hotspot is also not included. ”He emphasized that it should actually only refer to the area that, according to the fire brigade, is particularly endangered.

Fire brigade agrees to the application

At Jankowsky's request, the municipal public order office obtained statements from the Kaufbeuren volunteer fire brigade, the local police and Markus Holste (CSU), the city council's representative for public order. This was announced by Bruno Dangel as the head of the public order office. “They all approved of the decree,” said Dangel. The firefighters named the high roof trusses, the narrow, winding buildings and the complex water supply on the one hand. On the other hand, there would be an increased fire risk for the buildings in the old town and the approach of the fire engines would be particularly problematic here. “With the hare dye we saw what a single spark can do,” Jankowsky pointed out.

In order to increase the safety of particularly fire-sensitive objects, a competent authority may determine that class II fireworks may not be set off even on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, explained Dangel. Cities like Erding, Ingolstadt and Passau are showing how this can be done. The Explosives Ordinance provides for this. From January 2nd to December 30th, it is generally prohibited to set off fireworks. "Except in approved individual cases."

In a precisely defined area of the historical center, the gunfire should not be allowed at any time.

This would avoid sources of fire that the fire brigade could only reach with difficulty, said Peter Kempf of the Free Voters.

"Bans always limit freedom," but here his group agreed to the motion, said Kempf.

The taboo zone would be from the north of Josef-Landes-Straße to the south to Schraderstraße, and from the west, border Schießstadtweg to the east, Am Graben.

Dangel illustrated the worked out area on a map.

"Nobody takes away the fun of partying"

"We hope to protect the old town and to make life a little easier for the rescue workers," said Jankowsky.

Hannah Rieger (Generation KF) added: “We don't want to take away the fun of partying for anyone.” However, your group could “only support” the proposal.

Fireworks are not only dangerous when it comes to fire protection.

In her opinion, the decree would also protect the environment and animals.

"I think this is going to be a big topic," speculated Dangel.

The city council will now have to make a decision.
