Pep Guardiola has admitted he "feels a little guilty" for Manchester City fans, after the team was disappointed in the 0-0 home draw against Southampton - just days after the champions' coach actually begged fans to come to the league game.
The Etihad Stadium was almost full for the league game, as Guardiola requested this week after the 3-6 win over RB Leipzig in the Champions League, claiming he feared his players would be tired and that they owed the support.
But the crowd came, the group less.

"Whenever the game is not good I feel bad for them," Pep said at the end, "they come to see a show, to see a game, and when that doesn't happen I feel a little guilty because we didn't play well."
Guardiola's request and his appeal to fans provoked controversy in City stands, with many claiming they felt unappreciated and offended by things.
Pep claimed yesterday that "I did not say anything that is a mistake after Leipzig, I just said that after a very difficult game we will need the support of the fans for another very difficult game .. I did not complain about who came and who did not come. I am grateful even if 100 people come."
Yesterday, 52,698 spectators came to the game (still about 3,000 less than the maximum capacity), compared to 38,062 "only" spectators who saw the 3-6 over the Germans.
On the refereeing decisions that decided the game - a penalty and a dismissal for City's cancellation, and a goal in favor of City being disqualified and canceled, Guardiola simply said: "I did not see the incident."

The one at the top, at least temporarily, is Liverpool, who after the 2: 3 over Milan continued to impress with 0: 3 over Crystal Palace.
Sadio Mane scored his 100th goal for the club, and Jürgen Klopp complimented him: "I am happy for him, it is a great achievement, that only 18 players have achieved it in the history of the club."
Klopp said at the end that "I told the guys that it was the 0: 3 they fought the hardest I've seen, we had to give everything we had."
On Ibrahima Kunata, who made a promising debut, the coach said: "It's nothing more, we will see a lot more of him, because he is a real animal."
