    The monument was created by the artist Domenico Sepe, who explained that "the sculpture wants to symbolize the love of this man and for this man and is born exclusively from passion and without any other private purpose". At the time of the memory also participated the president of Naples, Aurelio De Laurentis, Corrado Ferlaino, the one who managed to 'give' Maradona to Naples and the Neapolitans, and some former teammates, including Renica and Giordano. "We have come to honor his dedication to the myth - said De Laurentis, speaking with the sculptor - every work that will be created for Diego must be honored and manifested". Satisfaction with the way Maradona was represented was expressed by Ferlaino: "It's a great job.

    The statue will remain in the square until 10pm today and then it will be brought back to storage pending the authorization of the Civil Engineers . "We managed to unblock this situation - concluded the Municipal Councilor for Sport, Emanuela Ferrante - being here today all together represents the beginning of a new season of collaboration and sharing for what are the fundamental values ​​for us Neapolitans" .
