Rome (dpa) - At a charity auction in aid of victims of the corona pandemic, a jersey from Argentina's football icon Diego Maradona raised 55,000 euros.

The shirt was donated by ex-footballer Ciro Ferrara, who played with Maradona at the SSC Napoli in the 1980s and 1990s. The former Italian international has founded a foundation with Fabio and Paolo Cannavaro, who were also born in Naples, the Fondazione Cannavaro Ferrara.

"We won another game, Ciro Ferrara," Maradona wrote on Facebook. "Possibly the most important thing. We won it together, as we have always done ..." According to Ferrara, the auction raised a total of 85,000 euros. In addition to the Maradona shirt, memorabilia were auctioned by 26 other football players.
