Mark Cuban buys a small town in Texas, just because he can

Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks basketball team, is having a Johnny Rose moment.

The billionaire just bought the entire city of Mustang, Texas, a small city that appears on the map along I-45 and has a population of 21 people, according to the latest census data.

The reason: A friend needed to sell it, Cuban told the Dallas Morning News.

"I don't know what I'm going to do with it," Cuban told the newspaper.

(Cuban should be out of luck in the "Schitt's Creek" style, though it's good to know that he will have his own village and a crazy group of locals to take him in.)

Mustang is more or less a 31 hectare blank canvas for Cuban.

The town was founded in the early 1970s, when it was known primarily as a local watering hole in a primarily dry Navarro county, according to the newspaper.

These days, there's little more than an RV park and the Wispers Cabaret strip club, which is reportedly in disrepair.

This Friday, Google Maps showed that the club's name had been edited to "Mark Cubaret."

The city also has a "resident alligator" in one of its ponds, Dallas real estate broker Mike Turner told the Morning News.

Well, you have Dallas about 45 minutes north.

And history buffs with a penchant for cult tradition will be delighted to find that the town of Waco is just over an hour's drive southwest of Mustang.

And just over 3 kilometers from Wispers is "the first and only vineyard and winery in Navarro County", Angelita (who honestly looks super cute).

It's unclear how much Cuban paid for the city, but for someone with a net worth of nearly $ 6 billion it was almost certainly a robbery.

The city was reportedly listed for sale in 2017 for $ 4 million, but Turner said it was overpriced, even when they cut the listing price in half.
