A 31-year-old man was shot dead in the night from Saturday to Sunday in a city in the northern districts of Marseille, in the same arrondissement where the day before another 26-year-old man had been killed in identical circumstances.

Called on Saturday evening around 9 p.m. by residents of the city of Bégude Nord, in the 13th arrondissement, who had heard gunshots and saw a man on the ground, the police found on the spot a body carrying more than ten projectile impacts, police said, confirming information from La Provence.

The 31-year-old victim was from the city where he also worked for security and housekeeping.

He was known to the police for various offenses related in particular to narcotics.

But as it stands, there is nothing to establish a link between the homicide and drug trafficking, present in this city as in many others in Marseille, police said.

"The presence of the victim in the evening in the city where he had friends is not surprising but we do not know whether or not he had an appointment", the same source said.

The police officers of the Marseille criminal brigade in charge of the investigation by the public prosecutor's office began a neighborhood investigation to try to determine the circumstances and the motive of this attack.

But so far no exploitable testimony has been received.

The investigators do not establish in any case "formally" no link with the murder, the day before, of a 26-year-old man, also riddled with bullets in the northern districts, city of Olives (13th).

The Bouches-du-Rhône and Marseille in particular have been experiencing an outbreak of violence since the beginning of the summer and this homicide brings to nine the number of people killed since June 25 (out of 16 since the start of the year), most of them related to drug trafficking.
