The man who seriously injured a parent of a student who was waiting for his children in front of a college in Marseille on Tuesday was indicted and imprisoned on Thursday, the Marseille prosecutor's office confirmed on Friday.
"The individual arrested was brought on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at the end of police custody and charged with charges of attempted voluntary homicide," said the prosecution.
"He was imprisoned in accordance with the requisitions of the prosecution," added the latter.
The vital prognosis of the victim, a parent of students in his thirties affected in the chest, "remains to this day very committed", further underlined the prosecution.
According to the first testimonies, reported by a source close to the investigation, the attack took place Tuesday at 6 p.m. opposite the Sévigné private college, in the 13th arrondissement of Marseille.
A father of students who came to pick up his children was attacked by a man armed with a Swiss army knife.
From the same source, it was witnesses attending the attack who overpowered the assailant while awaiting the intervention of the police, who proceeded to arrest him.
Supported by the emergency services, the victim was in cardiorespiratory arrest and unconscious during his transport to the hospital, according to the marine firefighters, who intervened on the spot.
Still from a police source, the aggressor, of French nationality, would have declared before the investigators to have acted "in the name of God".
He would also have mentioned "the devil".
But after a search at the home of the attacker, the terrorist hypothesis was definitively ruled out by the investigators, according to whom he would suffer from psychological disorders.
