The union organization accuses the prefecture of having exposed it to the violence of certain demonstrators when the procession arrives at the Place de

The CGT is studying the possibility of filing a complaint against the prefect of police, Didier Lallement, after the violence of May 1 of which she was a victim in Paris, says the general secretary of the union Philippe Martinez on Wednesday.

An investigation was opened by the Paris prosecutor's office after the assault on these activists.

"We are studying the possibilities of filing a complaint, including vis-à-vis the prefect of police," he said during a press conference at the CGT headquarters in Montreuil (Seine-Saint-Denis) .

General Secretary of the Ile-de-France CGT Regional Union, Valérie Lesage, for her part, asked that the prefect of police be "dismissed" because "he failed on numerous occasions to protect demonstrators and exercise the law. right to demonstrate ”.

An exit blocked by the police?

The CGT will also "ask for the opening of a parliamentary investigation, in order to clarify the management of the maintenance of order during the demonstration of this May 1st, as well as during the demonstrations since 2016, and more particularly on those of May 1st, ”she announced.

She criticizes in particular the police chief of having exposed her to the violence of certain demonstrators on the arrival of the procession place de la Nation, in Paris, by blocking the exit initially planned.

The prefecture had explained in a press release that several union vehicles were engaged "on the wrong exit".

Ms. Lesage replied that the exit that the trucks wanted to take, towards the Cours de Vincennes, was indeed the one planned according to the declaration receipt for the event.

No "failures" according to Darmanin

“There was - it was confirmed to us by the liaison officer at the end of the demonstration, but we were already blocked by the gates - a change of order during the demonstration but he did not have time to tell us keep them informed, ”she underlined.

Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said on Tuesday that there had been no “failures” of the police during the demonstration, citing a “fight between

and the CGT”.

The CGT points to violence committed by "the extreme right".

"The modus operandi", with "something premeditated" and the "racist, homophobic, xenophobic slogans" heard at Place de la Nation are "characteristic of this extreme right-wing violence," said Mr. Martinez on Wednesday.

"We are analyzing the images, photos, some are known on social networks for their membership, their support for the extreme right," he said.

"The Prefect of Police strongly regrets the questioning, by the CGT, of the action of the internal security forces during the demonstration on May 1," replied the prefecture in a statement on Wednesday.

“The facts are however clear and noted by all the observers on the ground: on the Place de la Nation, it was demonstrators who attacked other demonstrators.

(…) In any case, the Prefecture of Police is not responsible for the proper organization of the internal development of the demonstrations, which is the responsibility of the declarants responsible for the call to assemble ”.
