It was the evening of May 6, 1976: at 9 pm an earthquake of magnitude 6.5 shook Friuli causing extensive damage and collapses.

About a thousand dead, 3 thousand injured.

An 'Orcolat' (Ogre), as the locals call it in dialect, who brought part of the region to its knees 45 years ago.

Solidarity began immediately with hundreds of young Friulians who reached the places hit by the earthquake and teams coordinated by the mayors, the fire brigade and the Julia Alpine troops. In the countries most affected by the tremors, lives were saved thanks to the work of many volunteers. The day after Giuseppe Zamberletti arrived, appointed extraordinary commissioner by the Prime Minister Aldo Moro. One third of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region was devastated. But from that devastation a model of reconstruction was born.
