Mr. Schmid, what was your best appointment in this unusual first year as mayor?

I had so many wonderful appointments that I find it difficult to limit myself to one.

It's nice to see what has become of resolutions.

That's why I liked the inauguration of the youth leisure mile and the funeral hall, for example.

It was interesting to deal with the planning competition for the new construction of the middle school.

It is the grace of the Office to be a part of something like this.

I really enjoy my position.

What has surprised you most in your tenure so far?

The extreme versatility in my work surprised me.

The rate is very high and you need a lot of management skills because you have to pass a lot on to the employees.

Fortunately, I have a good group.

How long did it take you to settle in?

My first day of work was May 4th, 2020, when my secretary, Ms. Christa Rimböck, burst into my office with the appointments for the week.

At that time there was actually no longer any consideration.

But over time, of course, a certain routine develops in everyday work.

Nobody is born a mayor, you have to work hard for that.

What percentage of your working time revolves around the corona pandemic and its effects?

It's hard to say because Corona is currently affecting every area of work.

Starting with enabling mobile work for employees, developing a hygiene concept, providing tests and closing the town hall to visitors.

But it was always important to me that normal business did not stand still.

In times of crisis, the public sector has to act as a client.

You have to give an economic perspective.

Which individual project did you advance the most?

We are developing well in three of our core projects.

These include the construction of a new middle school and building yard as well as the expansion of the daycare center on Erich-Kästner-Straße.

With our fourth core project - the residential complex on Baumgartenstrasse - we have already made progress internally.

Proposals for solutions are to be presented to the local council and the tenants in the near future.

Describe the mood in the local council.

What definitely relaxed the atmosphere in the municipal council was the introduction of the compulsory corona test for the meetings.

This enabled us to counteract the skepticism - for example because someone had not worn their mask all the time in the meeting.

Overall, however, the general mood is good and the work processes are very constructive.
