For its 25th anniversary, the BMX team Weilheim hosted the Bavarian championship - no easy task in Corona times.

The effort was worth it.

It also went very well in terms of sport.

Weilheim - Corona or not - the BMX team in Weilheim did not want to spoil the 25th anniversary. The MC division had made a lot of effort in advance to celebrate the event in a special setting, with the hosting of the Bavarian championship. So the track in the Au was prepared and a hygiene concept was created. The efforts have paid off: over 200 athletes showed exciting racing in the best weather.

BMX-Team Weilheim:

The guests of honor were impressed by what the BMX-Team Weilheim had put together. Peter Bohmann, Vice President of Competitive Sports of the Bavarian Cycling Association, were just as impressed as Angelika Flock, the second mayor of the district town. For the championship, the Weilheim-based company had acquired modern technology, including a fully electronic start gate and electronic timekeeping. The Weilheimer started with 22 drivers. Four championship titles and four second places meant victory in the team classification among ten clubs. Chairman Torsten Perlik was very satisfied: Two years after the last home race, the team's motivation and spirit were particularly high, according to a statement.

The beaming winners included Anastasia Frison (7 and 8 years old), Elias Hartmann (9-10) and Jakob Paternoster (11-12), who each competed in the beginner class.

In the licensing area, the reigning German champion Fiete Müller lived up to his favorite role in the “Boys 9-10”.

All four Weilheimers dominated their classes and won all of their runs.

Thanks to the silver medals from Gregorio Frison (beginner 7/8) and Valentin Rill (beginner 9/10) there were even two double victories for the hosts.

Anika Rill (beginner 5/6) was unimpressed by the male competition: With two wins and two second places she made it safely to the final.

There she made the silver medal perfect.

Johannes Hartmann, the youngest in the team at the age of five, was among the best in the heats and even won a run.

In the final, however, his strength waned - he came in seventh.

The fourth medal for the hosts went to Johann Holbe (beginner 13/14), who finished all his runs in second and received silver for it.

Mattis Perlik only just passed a podium in the “Boys 13-14” license class.

In an exciting final, he only had to admit defeat by a few tenths of a second in the battle for bronze.

Finlay Rae (beginner 11/12) also qualified for an A-final - he finished fifth.

The other team members had good racing experience. Marlon Abenthum (beginner 7/8) made a good entry into racing with fourth place in the B final. Lara Krowosch had a difficult time against male competition in the "Beginner 13/14". She finished fourth. Regine Rill also came fourth in the license class for female cruiser drivers aged 30 and over.

MC Peißenberg:

The Peißenberg coaching team around Gerhard Lengger goes to great lengths to promote young talent, even in Corona times.

"Many of our young drivers have switched to the license classes this season, we now have 40 licensed drivers in the club," reports press spokeswoman Simone Schaberl.

The results in Weilheim showed that the Peissenbergers can now compete in the front in almost all classes: the athletes from the market town won six gold, three silver and four bronze medals.

The MC Peißenberg had already organized the Upper Bavarian title fights this year.

Benedikt Bichlmeyr, who, according to the announcement, has steadily improved over the past few years, started twice in Weilheim. On Saturday he impressed in the cruiser class 17-29 with first place. The 14-year-old prevailed against the much older competition with strong starts and good cornering technique. On Sunday he easily qualified for the final of the "Boys 13/14". There Bichlmeyr met team-mate Jamiro Löbel, who had also impressed with top places in the preliminary runs and his semi-finals. In the final, Löbel made a lightning start and sat at the head of the field, closely followed by Bichlmeyr. When trying to keep up with Löbel, Bichlmeyr fell and finished the race in eighth place. Löbel defended its top position on the technically demanding track and won gold.Jakob Lengger had bad luck in the "Boys 15/16": He too qualified for the final with strong runs, but fell there in a promising position and crossed the finish line in seventh place.
