Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador called on the rich G20 countries to reduce the external debts of poor and middle-income countries in light of the global economy suffering from a recession due to the Corona virus pandemic.
Reuters quoted Lopez Obrador as saying in a video recording in the framework of the G20 summit: "Our proposal consists of making the commitment to cancel debts and servicing the debts of poor countries in the world a reality."
The Mexican president also urged group leaders to ensure that middle-income countries can get credit at interest rates equivalent to those in developed countries, warning against taking on corporate debt and saving it even as the Mexican economy shines by 10 percent this year.
