Middle East conflict: Israel reports drone launch near the Jordanian border

The situation in the Middle East conflict remains extremely tense.

Radical Islamic groups are still attacking Israel with rockets from within the Gaza Strip.

In return, the Israeli military flies attacks on targets in the densely populated Palestinian territory.

Now the army has reportedly intercepted a drone that was flying in the direction of Beit She'an in the north-east of the country.

The city is close to the Jordanian border.

However, Israel's armed forces did not specifically disclose that the device came from Jordan.

According to the army, the drone was intercepted after the air force had monitored it.

The remains of the destroyed aircraft were collected by security forces.

There was initially no information on whether the drone was armed.

Hundreds of rocket attacks within a week

Since the beginning of the most recent escalation, the Israeli air force claims to have intercepted several drones that were operated from the Gaza Strip and that were armed with explosives.

According to the Israeli army, Hamas and other radical Palestinian groups have fired 3,350 rockets at Israel since the fighting broke out last week, 200 of them on Monday alone.

The evening before, rockets had also been fired at Israel from Lebanon.

But they did not reach Israeli territory and fell before the border.

Biden supports ceasefire

Israel's armed forces put the number of extremists killed in air strikes at 130. The authorities in the Gaza Strip meanwhile speak of 212 Palestinians killed, including 61 children and 36 women.

According to the authorities, ten people have been killed in Israel, including two children.

Most recently, US President Joe Biden had "expressed his support for a ceasefire" in a telephone conversation with Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu.

He also spoke with Netanyahu about efforts by the United States, together with Egypt and other partners, for such a ceasefire.
