Dr. Faisal Miqdad, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, discussed today, during his meeting with Jagan Chapagin, Secretary-General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the relations between the Syrian Arab Republic and the Federation and the importance of strengthening them within the framework of the memorandum of understanding that defines the legal status of the Federation in Syria.
Minister Al-Miqdad pointed to the need to develop these relations in various fields, pointing to the readiness of the Syrian state to develop cooperation with the Union and other organizations concerned with following up the humanitarian needs of the Syrian people, in a way that helps mitigate the effects of crimes committed by armed terrorist organizations with the support of regional and international forces known to all, in addition to Unilateral coercive economic measures imposed by the United States and Western countries on Syria, which primarily target the Syrian people.
For his part, the Secretary-General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies referred to the efforts made by the Federation in the humanitarian field, stressing his intention to develop mechanisms to move from humanitarian relief aid to improving the livelihoods of citizens, noting the efforts made by the Syrians to return to their normal lives and build their future.
The meeting was attended from the Syrian side by Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari, Deputy Minister, Milad Attia, Director of the Organizations Department, Dr. Abdullah Hallaq, Director of the Minister’s Office, Raif Al-Halabi, Director of the Media Department, Dr. Ammar Awad from the International Organizations Department, Roaa Sharbaji from the Minister’s Office, the International Federation Hossam Al-Sharqawi, Regional Director of the Federation, and Mads Brinch Hansen Head of the Federation's delegates in Syria and Victoria Stoddart, executive officer in the Secretary-General's office.
