The riots that accompanied the reception of the New Year in France led to the burning of more than 800 cars, while the police arrested hundreds of people in various regions of the country.

French media quoted Interior Minister Gerald Darmanan as saying today that riots took place last night during New Year's celebrations in the country, during which 874 cars were burned.

Darmanan added that "the number of burned vehicles decreased compared to previous years, as is the case with the attack on policemen," recalling that 1,316 cars were burned in 2019 while a curfew was imposed in 2020 due to Corona.

Darmanan said that the French security forces arrested 441 people, and another 381 people were placed in detention.

It is noteworthy that France witnessed faint celebrations of the advent of the New Year, with the authorities tightening restrictions due to the significant increase in the number of infections with the Corona virus and the spread of the Omicron mutant.
