The director of the Russian sector at the International Space Station, Vladimir Solovyov, confirmed that there are no current ideas regarding the cessation of use of the space station after 2025.

Russia Today quoted Solovyov as saying during a meeting of the Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences that the decision on the fate of the station must be taken at the government level, after a detailed study of decisions that will be proposed to the Russian Cosmos Space Foundation and discussed with Russia's partners.

Solovyov indicated that some components of the station have suffered defects and may break down during its subsequent use, proposing to replace them with new components, which requires the employment of funds estimated at 10 to 15 billion rubles, indicating that the countries participating in the station project have agreed to use them until 2024, after which consultations are held about its fate. In addition, the Executive Director of Manned Space Programs, Sergey Krikaliov, announced that “tests will be conducted to confirm the viability or lack of work of the International Space Station,” indicating that all countries participating in the project are interested in continuing to use the station after 2025.

It is noteworthy that the consultations between Ross Cosmos and the US Space Agency NASA on the fate of the International Space Station after 2025 will start early next year, according to a spokesperson for Ros Cosmos.
