Washington, SANA- Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov renewed the warning today of the consequences of NATO expansion

Washington-Sana

The Russian Ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, renewed the warning today of the consequences of NATO's eastward expansion on Russia's national security.

"The talks between Russia and both the United States and NATO representatives on security guarantees focused on ways to maintain peace and stability in Europe by establishing security guarantees on the basis of draft agreements proposed by Moscow," TASS news agency quoted Antonov as saying in a commentary published on Newsweek. Reiterating that Russia will decide to continue its dialogue with the United States and NATO after receiving a written answer to its proposals for security guarantees.

Antonov reiterated that the continued progress of the NATO bloc to the east constitutes one of the main threats to Russian national security, wondering how the US government would react if Washington, New York or Los Angeles were under bombardment.

Last week, Geneva hosted Russian-American consultations on security guarantees, while another meeting of the Russia-NATO Council was held in Brussels, in which discussions also focused on the security guarantees required by Moscow.
