Victim of compartment syndrome, the French pilot, currently 4th in the world ranking, underwent surgery on Wednesday.

It is the feast of the boxes this season in MotoGP, or more exactly that of the syndrome of the boxes.

A well-known pathology of the paddocks which affects the muscles of the forearm, transforms them into concrete, and causes excruciating pain to the pilots.

After Jack Miller, Iker Lecuona, Aleix Espargaro and his compatriot and world number 1 Fabio Quartararo a few months ago, the French driver Johann Zarco also passed on the operating table this Wednesday morning.

He was operated on at the Center Hospitalier du Pays d'Aix by surgeon Olivier Dufour.

The specialist in this disease and doctor from the French Motorcycling Federation had also taken care of Quartararo.

Johann Zarco had a successful operation today for Chronic Exertional Compartment Syndrome (CECS or 'arm pump') at the Center Hospitalier Pays d'Aix.

According to his team Ducati-Pramac Zarco was "operated successfully for chronic compartment syndrome" on the right forearm.

If he has to stick to a short two-day period without straining his arm, he should be ready for the Grand Prix of the Americas, in Austin, which takes place next week, Oct. 1-3.

Operated for the first time for this recurring problem in this sport, the 31-year-old pilot announced his choice to switch to billiards last week, specifying that he would be taken care of by surgeon Olivier Dufour.

Zarco then took part in the San Marino Grand Prix in Misano (Italy), finishing only 12th and admitting to having once again had a sore arm, this problem having handicapped him for several races.

Now 4th in the championship, Zarco had made an excellent start to the season, finishing second four times in the first nine races, before seeing his results deteriorate due to pain in his right arm.

Now treated and free of his pain, Zarco should be able to finish this 2021 season in the best conditions.
