It was expected, it is now official: holders of the first choice of the NBA Draft, which took place this Thursday in Brooklyn, the Detroit Pistons have selected the back of Oklahoma State Cade Cunningham. During his only university season, the person turned to 20.1 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.5 "assists". A reinforcement of weight for the team of "Motor City", which ended the past season with the second worst record in the League (20 wins and 52 losses) and therefore out of the play-offs for the tenth time out of the last 12 years. Cunningham will notably team up with two Frenchmen, Sekou Doumbouya and Killian Hayes. The last time the Pistons drew first in the Draft? In 1970, with Bob Lanier, introduced to the Hall of Fame in 1992 and who spent nine and a half years in Detroit.
For the rest, we note that the back of the famous G League Ignite Team Jalen Green arrives, with the second choice, in a Houston team in full reconstruction. Unsurprisingly, it is the pivot of USC Evan Mobley who landed in Cleveland with the third choice of this 75th Draft. The Cavaliers who also got their hands on the Spanish international Ricky Rubio during an evening marked by the announcement of the (probable) trade of Russell Westbrook at the LA Lakers against a shovel of players, including Kyle Kuzma. First international player selected, the Australian Josh Giddey goes to OKC with the sixth choice, just ahead of the first European, Franz Wagner.
