Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived at the nightly cabinet meeting in a bad mood.

According to ministers who attended the meeting, he was nervous and irritated.

The monologues he carried were apocalyptic.

"2,000 dead are already here," he told ministers, according to sources who attended a meeting held at Zoom.

Netanyahu urged ministers to quickly approve his proposal for a comprehensive closure, the most severe imposed on any country in the world since the onset of the corona plague.

He explained to the ministers that in March, the percentage of verified patients out of all the tests in Israel was only 2%.

"Then we did a closure and now we are in 13% of patients verified and you are procrastinating," he said.

Science Minister Yizhar Shai interrupted him.

"You're wrong," he said.

When Netanyahu ignored, Shai used more harsh words.

"You are wrong and misleading the ministers," he told Netanyahu.

Secretary of State Tzachi Braverman intervened.

"Do not disturb the prime minister," he scolded.

Shai insisted.

"The prime minister is misleading the ministers. The percentage of those confirmed in the March closure was 8% -9%."

Netanyahu ignored and went on to talk about the need to make a decision on a comprehensive closure soon.

Netanyahu did not just ignore Shai's words.

He also ignored all the discussions that took place in the 48 hours that preceded it.

The outline of the prayers and demonstrations he gave the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Justice and the police to prepare only the evening before he threw in the trash without holding a serious discussion about it.

The stormy corona cabinet hearing on Wednesday afternoon he stopped after a few hours and while the ministers were drinking coffee and eating borax he performed a snatch.

In an urgent telephone conversation with Bnei Gantz, Gabi Ashkenazi and Aryeh Deri, Netanyahu decided to bypass the cabinet and urgently convene the government plenum to pass the decision on the total closure.

Minister of Finance Israel Katz, Minister of Internal Security Amir Ohana and other ministers who were banned, were shocked to receive pushes from the news sites on their mobile phones for having themselves decided to impose a comprehensive closure on the State of Israel.

And they did not even know they were like that.

During the hearings yesterday he changed his position every few hours.

At first he wanted a complete closure for two weeks.

Then for only four days.

Then it was easy to retreat from the interesting total closure.

Only one thing he did not zigzag - in his attempts to ban the demonstrations against him in Balfour.

All other decisions were aligned accordingly.

For example, when Netanyahu realized that he could bring about a maximum reduction in demonstrations only if a total closure was imposed, he again changed direction and pushed for an absolute closure.

Gamzo and the medical authorities opposed a complete closure - Netanyahu rejected their position

"Your job is to recommend."

Netanyahu also ignored the factors of the profession.

Under pressure from some ministers, the Corona commissioner asked Gamzo to state his professional position at the nightly cabinet meeting.

In disgust and pity, Gamzo told the ministers that he thinks there is no need to go into such a tight crack and that he recommends not closing the economy completely.

Netanyahu waved it off.

"I heard you. Your job is to recommend and the job of the political echelon is to make decisions," he told Gamzo.

Shira Greenberg, the chief economist of the Ministry of Finance, received the same treatment, trying to explain to the ministers that the complete closure for two weeks means damage of NIS 35 billion to the economy.

"It's not a smart move," she said.

Here Netanyahu has already exploded.

"You do not give me grades," he said.

"You came here to present your recommendation. The officials will not give scores to the political echelon."

Minister Katz, who dared to question the decision to close the economy completely and also offered to leave 30% of it open as in the first closure, also received an angry response from Netanyahu.

"We are not in March. We should hit with a hammer. Hit with a hammer," he shouted at Katz.

"You have to hit the hammer."

The implications of the decision on the total closure are dramatic but the way the cabinet meeting was conducted was like a signal.

When the ministers went up for the zoom call, they were not presented with any written document detailing the content of the decision they were about to vote on.

Three hours into the meeting, Minister Zeev Elkin angrily remarked.

"Why is there no decision wording? What are we voting for anyway?", He asked.

The Israeli government has more than 30 ministers, but the number of those who tried to ask difficult questions can be counted on a little more than one finger - Ministers Shai and Katz, Minister Orit Farkash-Hacohen and Ministers Peretz, Shmuli and Zamir.

The other ministers were silent or silenced those who revolted.

Ministers Shai and Zamir and Minister Farkash-Hacohen came out against the political pressures that led to the decision not to close the Bio Kippur synagogues and to pass a law restricting the demonstrations.

Their party colleague Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi actually sided with the decision to leave the synagogues open on Yom Kippur and used a strange analogy.

"I fast and pray and agree that the synagogues should be left open on Yom Kippur. Even during the Holocaust, prayers were held," Ashkenazi said.
