New favorite place for bookworms

Weichs community library is the first to move into the new children's home - a selection of around 6,000 books

Weichs - At the beginning of January, the parish and community library was one of the first to move into the new children's house on Fränkinger Strasse.

Petra and Friedrich Hesse, daughter Verena and her boyfriend Alberto, Caroline and Robert Fessler as well as Britta and Thomas Dautl managed to move from the premises in the basement of the elementary school to the new building in a real show of strength.

The Vistula library has existed for several decades.

It is the fourth move for Hesse since she took over the management on a voluntary basis as a trained librarian in 1983.

At that time, people moved from the parish hall to the town hall, where cooperation between parish and congregation began at the same time.

The new library is on the second floor of the left part of the children's house.

It can be reached by stairs but also easily accessible via an elevator.

The entrance is opposite the sports and community center.

The library offers a large selection of around 6000 books.

Because of the connection to the primary school, children's books are inevitably the focus of customers, even if the cooperation with the school is currently somewhat limited due to Corona.

Of course there is also plenty of reading material for adults.

Current bestsellers are just as missing as non-fiction books.

And if a desired title is not in stock, almost all books can be obtained at short notice.

“We're quite flexible here,” says Hesse.

She is very happy about the positive feedback from visitors about the new library.

"Everyone was really enthusiastic about the bright and spaciously designed room." The children quickly made use of the seating in the huge plush toy that can be found in the children's corner.

In the anteroom of the library, a kind of lounge is to be set up soon, in which one can read the volumes comfortably and in peace.

In summer this should also be possible on the balcony outdoors.

With the move to the children's home, there has also been a change in the care of the “school library”, which has separate opening times for primary school students.

Caroline Fessler takes over the job from Renate Plajer, who is leaving after many years for family reasons.

The library is open Mondays from 6 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. and Tuesdays from 3 p.m. to 4.30 p.m.
