'Disruptive' is the term used to indicate something that aims to change the rules of the game and is also one of the most popular in Peugeot to talk about the new 408. A little sedan and a little SUV, raised but with all the 'good' features of a sedan.

A 'dynamic fastback' that focuses on all-French charm and on a design conceived to leave its mark or, as explained by the house of the French Lion, to open a new path.

New Peugeot 408, born to change the rules of the game

"The Peugeot 408 is a new kind of car - said Mathias Hossan, Head of Design Peugeot - and relies on its 'allure' as a power of attraction. It marks a moment of break because it is a sedan but with many useful features of an SUV. .

At the same time, however, it is not exactly either one or the other. "

At the center of the project, the creativity of a new silhouette, connected in some way to the world of top fastbacks in the C segment but also a 'breakthrough' within the current automotive market.

To top it all off, engineering focused on efficiency, intelligent electrification and driving pleasure.

"The geometry is completely new - explained Hossan - as well as with aerodynamics we have taken a new step forward, just think of the rims. Even the interiors have been designed in order to enjoy the time on board the car" .

In terms of geometry, the lines are sharp, the grille is in body color to integrate with the front and shows the new Peugeot emblem, with the lion's head in profile.

The rear bumper has an inverted cut to give the idea of a strong look to the profile.

The 408 rests on large 720 mm diameter wheels and special 20-inch wheels that feature a specially designed geometric design.

At the front, the Lion's typical light signature places the 408 in the Peugeot family, as do the LED rear headlights with their characteristic three claws.

"Design is one of the main reasons for buying a car - explained Jérôme Micheron, Head of Product of the Lion house - and the 408 is especially designed for those who are open to change and a new experience with a car. It does not replace any model in the Peugeot range but opens a new chapter and we expect it will attract customers from both the C and SUV segments. "

The 'measurements', with a length of 4.69 m and a wheelbase of 2.79 m, allow the new 408 to also aim for habitability, with it having a spacious second row of seats, with room for the knees of well 188 mm.

The trunk is also generously sized, with a volume of 536 liters which, with the rear seat backs folded down, can reach 1,611 liters.

The height is 1.48m and contributes to the sleek silhouette as well as to the improvement of aerodynamic efficiency.

Built on the EMP2 (Efficient Modular Platform) multi-energy platform, Peugeot 408 will be able to count on a range of engines that includes two 180 and 225 HP plug-in hybrid versions, as well as a 130 HP PureTech petrol version.

All three are combined as standard with an 8-speed EAT8 automatic transmission.

In a few months, a 100% electric version will also be presented.

The new Peugeot 408 will debut on the market at the beginning of 2023 and will be produced first in France, in Mulhouse, for the European market and then, soon after, in the Chengdu plant in China for the local market.
