New Zealand: man paints penises around potholes

2021-05-09T04:06:26.597Z

Out of anger at the poor condition of the roads, a New Zealander has painted male genitals on the asphalt. The administration did not react to this as the man would have liked.

For more than two years, Geoff Upson has been painting oversized penises around potholes in his hometown of Auckland, New Zealand.

He wants to point out the poor condition of the roads in his eyes.

He did not really get through with the action at the administration, on the contrary: Now the traffic authority has threatened the man with an investigation.

Upson has already received a call from the police, reports the New Zealand Herald.

In the eyes of the authorities, it is vandalism.

Upson's works pose a safety risk and would distract drivers, the newspaper quotes a spokeswoman for the authorities.

In addition, he could only have created them under dangerous circumstances, the administration argued according to the Stuff portal.

According to its own information, Upson has so far marked around 100 holes with a male genitalia.

It didn't help to complain by phone to the traffic authority.

Incidentally, his paintings would not destroy the roadways, because the asphalt would have to be replaced in the affected sections anyway.

Not the penises, but the streets are a security risk.

In 2015, an artist whose name was unknown in Great Britain provoked the administration with a similar attempt, reports the Guardian.

This had described the action as "obscene" and "offensive".

However, the criticized potholes in the city of Bury near Manchester were filled quite quickly, as the broadcaster BBC noted.

The city council announced that this had nothing to do with the penises on the asphalt - such damage is regularly repaired anyway.
