The last estimate was "overestimated", had warned Public Health France, which indicates that on June 15, 81.1% are completely vaccinated.

Several weeks after admitting that the proportion of residents in nursing homes vaccinated was "overestimated", an update of the estimates is finally published.

Thursday evening, Public Health France unveiled, in its epidemiological point, new data on the doses injected in these establishments and in USLD (long-term care units).

So far, the widely communicated figure was 99% of residents having received at least one dose. The latest estimate revises this figure downwards: in the whole of France, as of June 15, 87.8% of people have received at least one dose, and 81.1% are fully vaccinated. The results are also mixed according to the regions: if more than 85% of residents are fully vaccinated in Brittany and the Pays de la Loire, this figure falls to 79.8% in Île-de-France and to 75.4% in Corsica. “

The cohort covers 332,500 residents, which represents approximately 53% of residents of nursing homes or USLDs in France,

” states Santé Publique France.

In the Overseas Territories, the situation is even less glowing: only 41% of residents of establishments in Guyana are fully vaccinated, and less than a quarter of those in Martinique.

In these areas, the vaccination campaign is encountering many difficulties, including among the general population.

A minority vaccination among professionals in nursing homes

In recent days, concerns have also been expressed about the proportion of professionals working in nursing homes and USLDs who are not vaccinated.

Across France, Santé Publique France estimates that 55.3% of those affected have received at least one dose, and 41.9% are fully vaccinated.

By comparison, in mid-June, nearly 60% of adults received at least one dose, according to the Department of Health.

"

The cohort covers 122,000 professionals working in nursing homes or USLDs, which represents approximately 26% of professionals working in nursing homes or USLDs in France,

" the document indicates. Here again, disparities persist between regions, with coverage being particularly low in Île-de-France, Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur and Center-Val de Loire, where less than four in ten professionals are fully vaccinated.

The agency intends to update these figures regularly, after having stopped their publication for several weeks.

At the end of April, she explained that she wished to review her assessments, which were a priori overestimated: “these

overestimations are most certainly linked to the vaccination in nursing homes or USLDs of people over 65 who do not reside in these structures, in particular to avoid losing doses.

She said.

Threat of compulsory vaccination for professionals

The population residing in these structures is particularly fragile, and has been one of the priority targets of the vaccination campaign since its inception at the end of December. Thursday, Olivier Véran insisted on the importance of injections for caregivers officiating in these establishments: launching a "solemn appeal" to these professionals, the Minister of Solidarity and Health stressed that

"there are 60% of adults French who have already received an injection, less than 60% of caregivers work in nursing homes. It is not justifiable,

”he said indignantly.

The member of the government brandished the threat of compulsory vaccination, indicating that the executive "

will not take the risk at the start of the school year [...] of exposing frail elderly people in an establishment because caregivers have refused to to get vaccinated".
