Stefan Kraft won the gold medal in ski jumping from the large hill at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf.

Behind the Austrian, the Norwegian Robert Johannsson and DSV jumper Karl Geiger came in silver and bronze.

The German defending champion Markus Eisenbichler had nothing to do with the top places: After a weak first jump, the 2019 world champion improved to 134 meters in the second round, but was unable to land.

Eisenbichler survived the fall uninjured, but lost any chance of a front placement due to the deductions.

He finished 17th in the end.

Kraft had already confirmed his rising form in the first round, with a jump to 132.5 meters he took the lead ahead of Johansson and his Austrian compatriot Daniel Huber.

Geiger jumped 132 meters, but was already 10.1 points behind Kraft due to wind points and posture marks.

In the second round Geiger, who had already won silver on the normal hill and gold in the mixed competition at the World Championships in Oberstdorf, jumped again 132 meters and improved to third place.

Johannsson defended his second place with a jump to 135.5 meters, but could not make up the gap to Kraft, who managed a set on 134 meters.

The Norwegian top favorite Halvor Egner Granerud, who can no longer take victory in the overall World Cup, missed the competition.

Granerud had tested positive for the coronavirus and had gone into self-isolation with mild symptoms.
