The Democratic representative for California, Norma Torres, met with the former chief of the Special Prosecutor's Office Against Impunity (FECI) of Guatemala, Juan Francisco Sandoval, who was removed from his post by Attorney General Consuelo Porras. In an interview with Fernando del Rincón, the legislator pointed out that Porras could not remove Sandoval without the consent of President Alejandro Giammattei. However, the president said on Tuesday that Sandoval's problem belongs to the Public Ministry and that the Government did not intervene in justice matters. The president added that he did not have any interference in that case, which was a decision, according to him, of the attorney general Porras. After the dismissal, the prosecutor justified her decision by citing aspects of Sandoval's management that, according to her, they would reflect a partiality of the now ex-official in the treatment of different cases. Sandoval denies Porras' accusations. CNN has not been able to independently confirm that President Giammattei would be behind Sandoval's impeachment.
