Not their cup of tea: Wissotzky makes "Abadi" cookies more expensive

The popular salty cookies are marketed exclusively by the company affiliated with the tea world.

Just as in the case of Strauss and Shimrit products, which we reported on this week, also in the case of Wiszki and Abadi, the one behind the new price is the big company, in the hope that the small manufacturer will absorb the fire

Another price increase that will take effect this weekend: the price of packing salty Abadi cookies will increase by about 7%, which means an outrageous price to the consumer of about NIS 50 per kilo of Abadi cookies.

A pack of eight bags of 40 grams each, will jump by almost 29%.

Most consumers are unaware of the fact that the one behind the sharp rise in prices is the well-known tea company Wisotski, which is the sole distributor of Abadi products, which also enjoys its profits.

At the beginning of the week, we published in Walla about the rise in the prices of "Shimrit" products by up to 30%, including butter substitutes and chilled dough.

According to the information in Walla's possession, the person behind the increase in prices is Strauss, the exclusive distributor of Shimrit products, which is also cutting a handsome coupon from the profits.

The losing practice of companies that are under the public eye, such as Wissotzky and Strauss, using a brand of small manufacturers and hiding behind its slender shoulders, is common.

A senior food market official told us: "How easy it is to put a small producer as cannon fodder for a giant company that wants to rake in profits."

Wissotzky (just as in the case of Strauss and Shimrit Products), is the sole distributor of "Abadi" and to a large extent also has an opinion, but since the public is not aware of this, the rage over the rise in prices will not be directed at it.

According to the price list that Wissotzky passed on to retailers, the price increase includes not only the 400-gram packages of Abadi cookies and packages, but also cookies in the shape of wiping sticks that will increase by 6%, and "tiny" Abadi cookies by about 16 percent.

If there is no flour there is no Torah?

But not only the Abadi cookies Mikrat Vysotsky.

She is also the sales manager and the exclusive marketer of "Flour of Wonders", a well-known brand in the ultra-Orthodox religious company, which will also become more expensive this coming weekend - and cuts a handsome coupon from its profits.

The letter distributed to the retailers does not mention the name of "Wisotski", but of the parent company "Flour of the Kings", which apologizes from the bottom of its heart to the retailers for the economic burden involved in such a move.

"It is important for us to let you know that we have made every effort to delay the price increase as much as possible," it said, "and we have reached the limit of endurance to absorb the steep increases. And the only conclusion is that the other alternative is our inability to supply the flour."

We asked Wisotski for a response, but she, too, prefers to hide behind the manufacturer's back and directed us to accept Abadi's response.

The response will be published when received.
