A bad omen?

According to L'Est Républicain, a plan for the distribution of "stable iodine" was announced by the mayors of the communes of the Vosges, in the context of letters sent to the inhabitants of the department.

A message that aroused the curiosity and mistrust of local residents, such a plan being envisaged only for populations exposed to a nuclear risk, within a radius of 20 km around a nuclear power plant.

However, as the regional newspaper indicates, the Vosges are not in this case, the first power station, that of Cattenom in Moselle, being 100 km from the department.

Only, for a few days, the distribution of stable iodine tablets has been requested by the prefect of the Vosges.

An initiative intended "to deal with a possible incident resulting in radioactive releases", according to the authorities.

Priority to pregnant women

In the letter addressed to the inhabitants, it is specified that this distribution will be made “in priority to pregnant women, infants, adolescents and adults under 44 years of age”.

In addition, the ingestion of these tablets is not recommended for people over 60 years old.

"The message of alert and information to the population on the events will be transmitted by the media and all other local means", it is written.

“At this time, the so-called priority people or their legal representative will have to present themselves” in a defined place in the municipality, adds the letter, while a coupon is to be completed and returned to the town hall, all specifying their contact details, both telephone and digital, as well as his full identity and the dates of birth of the people in the household.

For the prefecture, the very tense situation around the Ukrainian plant of Zaporijia is in no way linked to this distribution plan, the plan taking place “every five years”.

"This is a normal procedure" complete the state services.
