The BS Vaterstetten has recorded an enormous increase and is therefore now hoping for more indoor time.

Parsdorf/Vaterstetten – Assuming that Santa Claus would come a month earlier this year: What would you spontaneously wish for your club?

In response to this reporter's question, the six-member discussion group paused briefly in the entrance area of the Parsdorf school gymnasium, first exchanged looks and then a unanimous nod.

"Of course, training times in a larger hall, such as the gymnasium in Vaterstetten.

Or at least a second training time in this hall here”, answers Ingo Nibbe on behalf of the archers of Vaterstetten.

The 67-year-old recurve specialist is a two-time German champion in the only Olympic archery class, which Nibbe identifies on this evening, sometimes militantly, sometimes jokingly, as there is no alternative for "real" archers.

In return, “the high-tech shooter” received side blows from the two purists in the group.

Tim Hubrich and Jan Sinicak were the BSV high-flyers in the past outdoor season.

Hubrich won the German men's championship with the Feldbogen at Kiebitzsee;

Two months later in Villingen-Schwenningen, Sinicak repeated the DM triumph in the 3D master class with the blank bow.

Qualifying two beginners at the same time is an absolute novelty

"It's an absolute novelty for me to be able to qualify two beginners for a DM in the first year," explains Peter Vaith proudly.

The first sports director of the Vaterstettener - most recently DM runner-up in 2019 with the bare bow in the 3D master class - is enthusiastic about the development of the BSV newcomers.

For the two newly crowned title holders, Vaith and Nibbe, with their expertise and decades of experience in competition shooting and material development, were the decisive factor in joining the club.

Tim Hubrich explains that he rediscovered archery as an effective training method years ago for physiotherapeutic and psychotherapeutic reasons.

"This year I joined this club and started with the bare bow to learn proper archery." Artistic pause to let this bow tip work with Ingo Nibbe waving off.

"Seriously, for me Peter is one of the ultimate shooters in Germany and the tips and advice from him and Ingo are simply worth their weight in gold."

Youth groups three years ago not so big

The fact that the BSV has long since blossomed into a competence center in this marginal sport, not only in the senior area, is shown by the heavily frequented entrance door to the Parsdorfer Halle, the closer the start of training for the young shooters gets.

Just three years ago the youth groups weren't that big, reports youth leader Johanna Burgmaier.

"In the meantime, we have increasingly focused on competitions and currently have 17 to 20 active tournament shooters in the junior division, who we have to look after accordingly." Since September, she has had to support eight interested children due to the capacity limits reached with regard to the five trainers and the insufficient winter training opportunities put off on a waiting list.

"It's not a problem outside, but we can't put up more targets in this small hall."

Long-term goal: More training times for the children

In any case, you have to split the youth groups into two training locations.

While one part is lining up in the Parsdorfer Halle this Wednesday evening, the other is shooting at the same time in the archery center BCI in Hergolding, which youth trainer Thomas Nibbe took over from his father Ingo.

"Every year we see three or four cases in which young people drop out of Baldham because they don't want to or can't go to Parsdorf," says Burgmaier, "but this year, for the first time, the indoor problem is really acute".

Hammer hard intermediate round

In order to avoid this division in the future and to be able to work off the waiting list, the BSV managers are putting their hopes in a round table, in which all sports clubs in the community of Vaterstetten are to take part with the responsible community representatives on Wednesday, November 30th.

"Our long-term goal in these talks is to get more training time for the children, if possible even in Vaterstettener Hallen," says Ingo Nibbe.

The occupancy plan will not change this winter

For this winter, however, nothing will change in the occupancy plan for the six hall units in the municipality, explains Georg Kast, advisor to Mayor Leonhard Spitzauer, when asked by our newspaper.

Kast finds it “irritating” and “unusual” that this appointment, which was clearly declared internal, is now being made public by an association that was partly responsible for having to reschedule the original appointment.

However, this expressly “open-ended consolidation” with the sports clubs is about “distributing quotas for large sports departments more as needed and optimizing logistics”.

Membership has increased sevenfold in five years

For the responsible clerks in the school authority, the distribution of the hall usage times "due to the constant change from modern sports" has long since become a "Herculean task".

“It is not easy to bundle the requests for information from the clubs.

the current patchwork carpet grew out of this,” says Kast.

The archers from Vaterstetten are of course aware that they will not audition alone with their request for more hall times and capacities.

And nobody at the BSV managers can really explain why the number of members has developed so positively during the pandemic period of all things, diametrically opposed to many other clubs and mass sports departments.

Within five years, the number of members in the junior division had suddenly increased sevenfold from five to 35, which Ingo Nibbe sometimes attributes to the “role model function” of national marksmen like Hubrich and Sinicak.

Monthly taster session

Demand in the affected rifle group.

The 16-year-old youth spokesman Oliver Guldner would certainly speak of a small "archery boom": "It's just a sport that anyone can do.

When I joined in 2020, we were five to ten people in training.

Now there are mostly 30 there, including an extremely large number of children and students under the age of 15.” The non-sporting, joint activities in the community are also very popular with newcomers.

"In addition to taster shooting, we also organize monthly game evenings and overnight stays before tournaments," says youth leader Johanna Burgmaier.

The numerous medal successes at the recent district championships would come on top.

Far above the district level, Tim Hubrich and Jan Sinicak want to attack in the open air in their second season of competition.

They don't feel the negative pressure of expectations after their masterful BSV debut, but want to develop side by side, also across classes.

"Unfortunately, Tim has a very steep learning curve," says Sinicak, laughing.
