OL-OM: the new episode of a (too) long list of incidents in Ligue 1 this season

2021-11-21T22:40:09.015Z

After a bottle touched Dimitri Payet's skull, the match between Olympique Lyonnais and Olympique de Marseille was interrupted.

It is an image that is becoming almost common.

We play the fifth minute of the clash between Olympique Lyonnais and Olympique de Marseille when Dimitri Payet is hit by a water bottle thrown in the head at the corner point.

While the announcer had already called the supporters of Groupama Stadium to order a few seconds before, the referee of the meeting Ruddy Buquet decided to ask the players to return to the locker room.

The match is stopped and a crisis meeting is held in the shackles of the stadium between the leaders of the two clubs in order to make a decision.

After nearly two hours of negotiations, the match is definitively interrupted.

Incidents from the first day

The first incident of the season occurs on the first day of the championship during a match between Marseille and Montpellier.

Bottles and cups had been thrown away, causing the match to be interrupted for about ten minutes.

An intervention of the disciplinary committee of the LFP for Nice-OM

Two weeks later, new incidents occurred at the Allianz Riviera during the meeting between OGC Nice and Olympique de Marseille.

There again, jets of bottles had targeted Dimitri Payet, which had degenerated into an invasion of the ground.

The match was then interrupted and finally replayed on neutral ground and behind closed doors by decision of the disciplinary committee of the LFP.

This had also sanctioned the Nice club with a loss of point and three games behind closed doors.

Alvaro Gonzalez and Dimitri Payet had been suspended for two games.

Clashes between supporters in the North

In the wake of these decisions, clashes between supporters taint the northern derby.

Lensois supporters invade the field to do battle with the Lille park.

The disciplinary committee had again taken sanctions: a suspended penalty point for the two teams, two home games behind closed doors for Lens or the temporary closure of visitor parking lots for Lille.

Kick-off delayed in Saint-Étienne

Already affected by incidents at home against OM, Angers was at the heart of a new episode in Geoffroy-Guichard at the end of October.

The match started an hour late due to the intrusion on the lawn of ultras who had fired rockets and smoke and damaged the goal nets.

The committee had decided to sanction the Greens with a game behind closed doors, two away games without supporters and a closure of the turns for the next two home matches.

Sunday evening, the LFP was quick to condemn the assault on Dimitri Payet.

The disciplinary committee of the instance must meet on Monday to decide on new sanctions.

The latter could be firmer than the previous ones in order to definitively curb this phenomenon of incidents which plague the French championship.
