Professional cyclist Buchmann is allowed to start after a negative test

1:56 a.m.:

After the positive corona test by room colleague Simon Geschke, Emanuel Buchmann is allowed to start the Olympic road bike race (from 4 a.m.). A second PCR test of the 28-year-old was negative, as announced by the Association of German Cyclists. Until the result was available, Buchmann stayed in a separate apartment. The other German starters Nikias Arndt and Maximilian Schachmann had already received clearance for the 234 kilometer race.

Geschke was the first German athlete to test positive for the corona virus at the Olympic Games.

The 35-year-old was initially positive in the daily antigen test, a subsequent PCR test verified the result.

Geschke should have started in the street race.

The cyclists are not housed in the Olympic village, but a good 100 kilometers west of Tokyo on Mount Fuji.

Osaka shows movement over lighting the Olympic flame

1:35 a.m.:

The Japanese tennis player Naomi Osaka has shown herself moving about the lighting of the Olympic flame on social networks.

"Without a doubt the greatest sporting achievement and honor I will ever have in my life," tweeted the four-time Grand Slam winner.

"I can't find words to describe the feelings I'm feeling right now," she wrote.

The 23-year-old had lit the fire on Friday evening.
