  • Aside from sport, the story of Belarusian sprinter Krystsina Tsimanouskaya caused a stir on Sunday.

The 24-year-old was apparently supposed to be sent back to Belarus against her will - probably because she had criticized sports officials in her country.

  • Tennis pro Alexander Zverev fell to his knees and put his hands over his face.

A few moments earlier, he had beaten the Russian Kharen Khachanov in a hurry and won Olympic gold in the men's singles - as the first German ever.

  • Triple jumper Yulimar Rojas has won the first Olympic gold in athletics for Venezuela with a world record.

In her home country, TV viewers almost didn't see it.

  • That must be it, the Olympic spirit: The two high jumpers Gianmarco Tamberi from Italy and Mutaz Essa Barshim from Qatar did without a jump-off, shared gold - and thus created a poignant scene.

  • There was a surprise at what was probably the most popular event of the Games, the 100-meter sprint: The new fastest man in the world is Italian and is called Lamont Marcell Jacobs.

Against her will

Day nine of the Olympics was overshadowed by the story of Belarusian sprinter Krystsina Tsimanouskaya. The 24-year-old was taken from her hotel room by the coach of the Belarusian team and brought to the airport before her 200-meter run, which is scheduled for Monday. She was supposed to leave, back to Belarus - against her will. The reason: She had publicly criticized sports officials in her country. Tsimanouskaya resisted the involuntary departure from Japan and sought protection from the Japanese police at Tokyo's Haneda Airport. Apparently she wants to apply for asylum. She also asked the IOC to get involved.

A message from the Belarusian Olympic Committee on Telegram said that the runner had been examined by a doctor and would not take part in any further competitions because of her "emotional and psychological state".

On her Instagram account, Tsimanouskaya described this representation as a "lie".

Bolt, Bolt, Bolt, Jacobs

For years Usain Bolt shaped the races over 100 meters, meanwhile the Jamaican superstar is in sprint retirement.

His successor is the Italian Lamont Marcell Jacobs.

With a European record of 9.80 seconds, he relegated the Americans Fred Kerley (9.84) and Andre de Grasse from Canada (9.89) to second and third place.

Zverev's greatest triumph

Alexander Zverev is the first German individual Olympic champion in tennis since Steffi Graf in 1988. The Hamburger dominated against the surprise finalist Karen Chatschanow from Russia and won 6: 3, 6: 1.

Then he said, “It's an incredible feeling for me.

I can't compare it, this is so much bigger than anything else. «Zverev had to wait a long time for this first big title and failed again and again at Grand Slams.

Now he had his triumph.

It doesn't jump, it flies

Yulimar Rojas from Venezuela has crowned her first Olympic triple jump victory with a world record.

The two-time world champion flew 15.67 meters in Tokyo on her last attempt.

Her compatriots almost couldn't cheer in front of the television.

The TV signal in the South American country was only activated immediately before the start of the Olympic Games after the USA initially blocked the last installment of payments to marketers due to the economic sanctions imposed.

Double gold in the high jump

It is probably one of the

Stories of the day: The high jumper Essa Mutaz Barshim from Qatar and the Italian Gianmarco Tamberi crossed 2.37 meters in Tokyo and had the same number of failed attempts.

They agreed with a referee to abandon the competition, which resulted in both of them taking the gold medal.

This is what is called the "Olympic spirit".

Short and sweet

For Xander Schauffele and his family, the Olympic dream has come true: The young Californian with German roots won the gold medal he had hoped for, ahead of Rory Sabbatini (267).

The bronze medal went to CT Pan from Taiwan.

Laura Ludwig hopped up and down in the sand after reaching the quarter-finals, Margareta Kozuch roared her joy into the sky.

The German beach volleyball players won 2-1 against the Brazilians Agatha Bednarczuk and Eduarda Santos Lisboa, after all number one in the world rankings.

French super heavyweight boxer Mourad Aliev was disqualified and responded with a sit-in strike.

Aliev sat at the ring for 45 minutes.

He competed for gold, it was bronze: Florian Wellbrock missed the Olympic victory over the 1500 meters - he was in the lead for almost the entire distance.

Gold went to Robert Finke from the USA.
