Gold medals were awarded in 18 competitions on the second day of the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
German athletes have not yet been able to secure a victory, but neighbor Austria can celebrate a sensational victory in the women's bike road race.
The German footballers disappointed, while the archers and synchronized swimmers cheered.
Yuto Horigome is the name of the first ever Olympic champion in skateboarding.
Olympic debut for skateboarders
First deeply disappointed, then spectacularly to victory: World champion
Yuto Horigome became
the first skateboard Olympic champion in history in his hometown of Tokyo.
The 22-year-old won the street final with 37.18 points, the Brazilian Kelvin Hoefler finished second, Jagger Eaton (USA) took bronze.
US star Nyjah Huston, on the other hand, fell short of expectations despite a good starting position and had to be content with seventh place.
First, the athletes completed two 45-second runs in the Ariake Urban Sports Park in the port of Tokyo.
Here Horigome had serious problems and was only in fourth place with a large gap to world number one Huston.
Horigome threw his board in the corner out of frustration.
But the tide turned in favor of the local hero for the individual tricks on the rails.
Horigome put on a sensational air show and received a rating of over 9.00 in four out of five attempts.
His near-perfect slides and grinds over the bars catapulted him to the top, also because Huston only made one of his five jumps.
On Monday (from 2.00 a.m. / ZDF and Eurosport) the decision will be made by women.
First German medals
The water jumpers won the first German medal at these games: European champions
Lena Hentschel and Tina Punzel
won bronze in
synchronized jumping from the three-meter board
.
For the duo it is the greatest success in their career to date.
Punzel was also at the 2016 Games in Rio.
There the now 25-year-old finished seventh in synchronized jumping from the three.
She is also a four-time European champion.
Medal number two went to the German archers.
Lisa Unruh, Michelle Kroppen and Charline Schwarz
prevailed in the team competition in a duel for third place 5: 1 against Belarus and thus won the second German medal in Japan.
The last time a German women's team won a medal was in Sydney in 2000.
Double gold for the Abe siblings
The siblings
Uta and Hifumi Abe brought
Japan Olympic double gold in judo.
21-year-old Uta Abe won the Olympics in the up to 52 kilogram class, and a little later her two-year-old brother Hifumi triumphed in the 66 kilogram category.
With a total of 42 Olympic gold medals, Japan is by far the most successful nation in judo.
At the 2018 World Championships in Baku, both had won the title on the same day.
“I couldn't have made it this far without my older brother.
I don't even know if I would have learned judo at all without him, ”Uta Abe had said before the Summer Games.
In her Olympic final she defeated the French world number two Amandine Buchard in extra time through Ippon.
Hifumi Abe had only secured the last place in Japan's judo team for the Olympics at the last minute.
In his final battle he won against the Georgian Wascha Margwelaschwili by Waza-ari.
Strange decision in the road race for women cyclists
At the Olympic road race, there is no radio link, as is usually the case, between the team leader and the cyclists.
This could have led to the fact that the top drivers completely missed the fact that they
disappeared from the radar
with the Austrian
Anna Kiesenhofer
.
The 30-year-old drove sensationally first across the finish line, while the following riders thought they were still fighting for gold.
Annemiek van Vleuten was happy about the supposed gold medal at the finish - only then did she find out that Kiesenhofer had triumphed.
German footballer with trembling victory
After the 2: 4 (0: 3) against Brazil, which was embarrassing in the first half, the German Olympic footballers also disappointed in their second appearance.
Against outsiders Saudi Arabia, the team of coach Stefan Kuntz came to a happy 3: 2 (2: 1).
Nadiem Amiri (11th minute) and Ragnar Ache (43rd) had put Germany in the lead twice, Sami Al-Naji (30th and 50th) each equalized.
After Amos Pieper was sent off because of an emergency brake (67th), the DFB team had to contest the final phase outnumbered, but after a cross from captain Max Kruse, Felix Uduokhai (75th) managed to score the winning goal.
Simone Biles gymnastics for six medals

The American is in the finals on the uneven bars and qualified for the medal fights on the balance beam, on the floor, in the all-around and in the jump.
In addition, she competes for gold with the US team.
If Biles wins all of her finals, she could get six gold medals.
