Without much surprise,
Armand Duplantis
became the new Olympic pole vault champion.
The new master of the discipline, world record holder (6.18 m), becomes Olympic champion at just 21 years old.
A mark at 6.02 m is enough for him to become champion in front of the American Christopher Nielsen (5.97 m) and the Brazilian Thiago Braz (5, 80 m), reigning Olympic champion.
This is Sweden's second gold medal, the second in track and field, after
Daniel Ståhl
in the discus throw.
"Mondo" then tried to break his own world record (6.18m), with a bar at 6.19m, but failed nothing on his three attempts.
