The Civil Administration in Judea and Samaria today (Sunday) unveiled the first candle of Hanukkah, a new archeological discovery in which a rare testimony to the Hasmonean days was found, in the form of a lead sling bearing the name of Tryphon, the ruler of Seleucid, who fought in the Hasmonean house.
The find, which was discovered at the Tel Zif site in the southern Hebron Mountains, is about 3 cm long, and clearly shows a Greek inscription bearing the name of the ruler Tryphon, who ruled the Seleucid kingdom between 145-138 BC.
In addition, the slingshot also contains the symbol of Zeus - the Greek god.

We continue to discover new finds that constitute another tier of the rich history that took place in the Judea and Samaria area hundreds and thousands of years ago. "
"The Civil Administration will continue to work tirelessly to preserve and expose the archeological sites and national heritage and cultural assets throughout Judea and Samaria," it said.
