One in two French people will use Amazon for their Christmas shopping

Amazon crushes the competition for the holiday season.

One in two French people (53%) will visit the American platform to do their Christmas shopping, according to an OpinionWay survey for Bonial * published on Monday.

Far behind, we find on the podium Fnac-Darty (23%) and the E. Leclerc centers (20%).

This is followed by Cultura (18%), Decathlon (17%) and Carrefour (15%), then Cdiscount, Natures & Découvertes and Boulanger (all at 13%).

Unsurprisingly, it is young people who will vote for Amazon for their Christmas shopping.

Among 18-24 year olds, six out of ten people (61%) will surf the platform (compared to 45% of those aged 65 and over).

For their part, consumers shopping at Fnac Darty are on average better off (30% have an income of more than 2,000 euros per month, 12% less) and come from higher categories (31% are CSP +, 19% CSP- ).

The online catalog goes beyond the paper catalog

Amazon's dominance illustrates the weight of the internet in Christmas shopping.

Despite everything, physical sales remain the majority.

Indeed, 73% of French people plan to visit a store, against 67% on the web.

On the other hand, to prepare for purchases, "

the digital catalog is now at the forefront of tools

", notes the study by Bonial, specializing in digital support for brands, ahead of the paper catalog (40% against 36%).

Finally, despite the pandemic and inflationary context, the French intend to please Christmas 2021. The average budget this year amounts to 416 euros, or 15 euros more than last year.

Three in ten consumers (29%) even plan to spend more than 500 euros.
