Sentence to one year in prison for the killing by poisoning of about fifteen animals, including some belonging to protected wild species.

It is the sentence, with conditional suspension, that Giovanni Moro, 65-year-old farmer from Laerru, was inflicted by the Court of Sassari.

The man between 2015 and 2017 had scattered poisoned morsels in the countryside around his plot, to exterminate some wild animals that he believed threatened his flock of sheep.

However, many hunting dogs owned by the hunters who frequented the area, ravens and cats were also killed by the poison.

Evidence of the poisonings had been gathered thanks to investigations by the Forestry Corps.

Judge Anna Giuseppina Pintore also sentenced the breeder to pay compensation of two thousand euros to the owner of one of the killed dogs and of one thousand euros each to two other hunters who became civil party in the trial.
