Hamburger SV turned a deficit against Schalke 04 at the start of the 2nd Bundesliga and started the season with a win. At 1: 3 (1: 0) in Gelsenkirchen, Simon Terodde, signed by HSV before the start of the season, gave Schalke an early lead (7th minute). Robert Glatzel initially missed the greatest chance to equalize with a penalty kick (28th), but then scored in the second half (53rd). Substitute Moritz Heyer (86.) scored late to take the lead again for HSV, Bakery Jatta made the decision (90.).

For the first time since the beginning of the corona-related restrictions in Germany in March 2020, Schalke 04 was allowed to play a competitive game at home in front of more than 300 spectators.

The almost 20,000 fans in the arena saw a strong start for their team, which achieved numerous early ball wins.

Terodde missed a first chance, his shot from the turn just missed the far post (5th).

A little later, Terodde did better and completed a strong Schalke counterattack: After Dominick Drexler won the ball, Marius Bülter sent his strike partner down with a pass, Terodde kept his nerve in front of the goal and hit keeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes for the lead with a chip (7th).

HSV awards penalties, Schalke loses Latza

Then Schalke withdrew further.

HSV now had more play, but hardly any scenes in the opposing penalty area against the Schalke defense, which was reinforced to form a five-man chain.

Nevertheless, Glatzel had a great chance to equalize: After Florian Flicks fouled the Hamburg David Kinsombi, referee Timo Gerach decided on a penalty.

Glatzel aimed halfway up to the right, but Schalke's goalkeeper Michael Langer, who represented Ralf Fährmann, who was ill with Corona, parried the ball (28th).

However, there was a setback for the Royal Blues before the break: Captain Danny Latza was injured in a duel and had to be replaced, Blendi Idrizi took his place in midfield (32nd).

After the break, the Hamburg offensive game picked up speed. A standard situation brought the balance: Tim Leibold failed with his free kick from a good 20 meters to Langer, but the rebound brought Glatzel over the line (53rd). The goal heralded wild minutes for Schalke, in which first Bakery Jatta for HSV (54th), then Schalke's Thomas Ouwejan (55th) gave further good chances.

For the last half hour of the game, Hamburg had more of the game again, Schalke missed through Terodde, who failed with a double chance first to Heuer Fernandes, then on the post, but the opportunity to take the lead again (61.).

That should take revenge when a low shot from Heyer hit the Schalke goal late (86th).

Heuer Fernandes then saved strongly against Marcin Kaminski and Terodde (88th), before Jatta made everything clear (90th).
