The largest petrochemical refining project in China has entered production with an investment of 67.7 billion yuan (about 10 billion US dollars) and a capacity to process 16 million tons of crude oil annually.
Ma Shiguang, mayor of Lianyungang City, where the project is located, said that the project is one of the three major projects supported by the State Council for Petrochemical Refining, adding that its operation is of great importance in accelerating the transformation and upgrading of the city's industrial structure.
The project broke records in a number of technological fields, as it can save energy by about 15 percent and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by two million tons annually.
The project is expected to play a major role in bridging crude oil refining, high-end chemical engineering, and raising the local rate of important chemical products.
